Despite having perhaps, the most hermetically sealed borders of any country in the world since Covid erupted in Wuhan in late 2019, China officially opened its pre-game bubble for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics on Tuesday, January 4th.
The Olympics will commence with expected politically inspired CCP fanfare on February 4th. That is unless some rapidly developing Omicron variant throws the entire spectacle into chaos and disarray. Talk about an accident waiting to happen!
This month-long pre-game 'Bubble' is heralded as a 'Closed-loop Management System' sectioned away from the general public. It's intended to permit all 2000 competing athletes together with 25000 supporting coaches, global media, and foreign dignitaries 'quarantine free' entrance into the country for the Beijing 2022 Olympics.
Only domestic spectators will be allowed as overseas fans and tourists are prohibited from entering China.
Many diplomatic legations around the world have already given notice to boycott the games in protest at the CCP because of its human rights abuses against the Uighurs.
It isn't easy to take any official Chinese statistics as gospel or fact, but China has allegedly vaccinated over 85% of its population with its home-grown vaccines Sinovac and Sinopharm. Unfortunately, these native vaccines appear less efficacious than the mRNA products.
Moderna, now trading at less than half its all-time high of $497 [MRNA @ $ 216] and Pfizer off its all-time high of $61 [PFE @ $55], are seen to be effective in addressing the highly infectious but vastly less lethal [21 times less by some estimates] Omicron variant.
The CCP's obsession with affecting a 'Zero Covid' policy over China illustrates just how offensive, brutal, and authoritarian its futile actions have been in dealing with the present Covid Delta variant.
The city of Xian and its 13 million residents have been in a strict lockdown since December 13th and since January 4th forbidden to post any criticism or negative comment on social media amid shortages of necessities.
Yuzhou, a city of 1.2 million residents in China's central Henan province, likewise is experiencing a less restrictive lockdown from Monday, January 3rd, after reporting under ten asymptomatic cases in the past few days. Other smaller cities are in similar light lockdown, including Zhengzhou and the port city of Ningbo.
The Olympic village 'Bubble' consists of an exclusive transport system that links sports venues, restaurants, and hotels that only Olympic-designated persons can access.
Domestic fans attending will be distanced.
Nonetheless, given what we already know about Covid, the chances of the highly infectious Omicron variant entering or escaping the bubble seems inevitable.
The CCP is setting itself up for a spectacular and humiliating own goal.
Ironically that just maybe the catalyst to force the CCP to abandon the folly of implementing lockdowns and a lesson to Governments around the world that lockdowns don't work, but rather the consequences of them are inflicting far more damage and immeasurably more harm to everyone than the virus itself.
